Files available for download:

Main Downloads (amd64 versions)

Releases based on FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE

Note: amd64 versions are suitable for both Intel and AMD 64bit processors. These include Core2Duo, Athlon 64 and variants and others. They are not suitable for the IA-64 CPUs (i.e. Itanium processors).

Before attempting installation, please read the following file (also included in the root directory of the DVD):

In short:

  • The 'doc' distribution (FreeBSD Documentation) is now available. Just select the desired languages to install. The DVD contains the doc packages for all existing FreeBSD documentation projects.
  • To install linux-related ports during initial setup, you will have to load the linux.ko module manually. This is explained in the above README. (Note this is due to differences in the newer versions of sysinstall and is not related to the release)

Note: LibreOffice 3.3.2 and abiword/gnumeric are included in the above iso. The options used to compile the ports are included in the options.tar.gz file on the root of the DVD. You may uncompress this into /var/db/ports for future upgrades of the included packages via the Ports Collection.

XFCE Build

GNOME Build

Important: There is a known (but at the moment unsolved) problem with the package INDEX on the GNOME DVD. Two required packages, are not automatically selected as dependencies although they are present on the disc. Please make sure to select and install these packages manually, (in addition to any other packages) from the "All" selection of the sysinstall package menu, otherwise other packages may fail to install:

  1. djbfft - This is required for gnumeric
  2. libdvdcss - This is required for gnome multimedia playback

The GNOME build replaces the XFCE packages of the first DVD with the GNOME ones. The remaining packages are otherwise identical. The GNOME build includes:

  • Complete version of GNOME 2.26.2
  • The gnome-power-tools packages
  • The gnome-fifth-toe packages
